Mud Cloth

The origin of Bogolan Mud Cloth (Bogolanfini) is rooted in the Beledougou region of Mali, and has played a vital role in the rituals and ceremonies of Mali's Bamana society. It is made from hand-woven cloth, which is first dyed using boiled leaves, then painted with fermented mud that reacts with the dye to create dark patterns.
